GR55 - continued
1. All new chassis construction. Highly advanced
materials and lay-up allowing lower weight but increased
stiffness, impact resistance, and safety.
2. Gould own designed gearbox. Based on a highly successful
F1 gearbox we have designed a gearbox capable of withstanding
over 350ft/lbs, using proven Xtrac transverse internals,
our own cam and pawl differential, maintaining high
strength, rigidity, and reliability.
3. A new rear wing construction features significantly
improved load capacity and stiffness. The lower mounting
is removed from the airflow, giving noticeable aerodynamic
gains. A top F1 style exhaust exit helps air flow in
this area.
4. R&D work identified a monoshock suspension design
that has several key dynamic improvements. We can now
make the best of modern tyres using a simple and lightweight
assembly. Again Gould built dampers allow high levels
of tuning.
A number of engines can be
fitted to the modular rear end but originaly the Nicholson McLaren
3.3 then 3.5XB power unit producing over 650bhp, combined with
the ultra lightweight Gould chassis, made the GR55 a double championship winner.
