GR37
When approached to design and build a new car
for the Wight family we Despite its age, the GR37 is
still a very competitive car and has won
championship rounds in the last two seasons against
the far more technically
advanced cars.
The 37 was the first production Gould
car. Knowing the benefits of
monococque construction but without the facilities to
manufacture their own
carbon chassis Gould based the car on a Ralt Formula
3 chassis. Large
Cosworth DFR and DFL engines were the most common engine
installations, the former leading David Grace to the
first production Gould championship win in 1998 in fact
the first championship winning carbon chassis car.
The design was developed over several
years, seeing many radical
modifications. The biggest change came to the 37B after
extensive wind
tunnel testing and some major aerodynamic improvements,
such as a raised
nose and extended diffuser floor, were introduced to
maximise downforce
efficiently.
